a more positive song:

"lightning strikes,maybe once,
maybe twice,
and it all comes down to you"

Mariana,

Thanks for taking time to visit my dear, it's an honour and a miracle really--you are the most generous and probably the most brainy and maybe the most exhausted of all bloggers on Planet Earth.

Anonymous,

Positive, we would always wish to be, and our hearts, we would hope, will always stay open.

But who can know how lightning strikes other people? How does one survive it?

Love Will Tear Us Apart

I can see how the crisp views of Francois de La Rochefoucauld might seem to some unduly harsh. And he and the poet could well be all wrong about Love and everything else.

After all, who else but FdLR is guilty of having suggested that:

"No persons are more frequently wrong, than those who will not admit they are wrong."

Another one of his, dwelt upon here perhaps overmuch of late:

"The defects and faults in the mind are like wounds in the body. After all imaginable care has been taken to heal them up, still there will be a scar left behind."

But some nights this is the one that strikes deepest:

"We all have strength enough to endure the misfortunes of others."

And finally, one that perhaps has a projective forward relevance beyond the time of FdLR, applying maybe to our present phenomena of internet identity-morphing and sock-puppetry. Could he have seen the future?

"We are so accustomed to disguise ourselves to others that in the end we become disguised to ourselves."

Zeph,

I suspect perhaps it's a climate thing.
