Life in Movies

We who are moved by
Clouds at midnight
Have grasped the illusion
Crossing the black room
A bright beam lights
The thin sheet
With a shadow mark
Some star poses
A presence in scarlet
Carnival laughter
Quick lipstick
And then the car
Pointed into soft darkness
Starts up like a knife

Basic Instinct, dir. Paul Verhoeven, 1992

In a Lonely Place, dir. Nicholas Ray, 1950
